Why Notaries Need E&O Insurance

Errors and omissions insurance offers protection from liability and financial loss if a notary makes a mistake or commits a negligent act. We recommend that all notaries get E&O insurance to avoid paying out-of-pocket legal fees if a file is claimed.

Tips For Completing an Error-Free Application

  1. Before mailing your application, make sure your signature is notarized by another Virginia notary on Part 3 of your printed application.
  2. You can pay the $45 application fee with a credit card or check/money order. If paying by card, the barcode number on your printed application must match the receipt's invoice number. Checks/money orders must be made payable to the Treasurer of Virginia.
  3. If you paid online and could not print your application, contact the Secretary of the Commonwealth office at notary@governor.virginia.gov and you will get an email with a PDF copy of your application.
