Why Notaries Need E&O Insurance

Errors and Omissions insurance offers protection from liability and financial loss if a notary commits a negligent act. We recommend that all notaries get E&O insurance to avoid paying out-of-pocket legal fees if a file is claimed.

Tips for Completing an Error-Free Application

  1. You must complete a three-hour course and pass a notary exam before submitting your application. If you do not include your exam certificate of completion, the Secretary of State will not accept your application.
  2. Remember to include the results of the required criminal background check and a photo of your signature with your application.
  3. The final notary application requires a $15 filing fee that goes to the Secretary of State.
